I'm Carl, and I teach guitar and drums
I play guitar in the band Powersurge, and I've played guitar and drums for a long time. I teach from my home in Holme on Spalding Moor, in East Yorkshire.
Why I teach the way I do
I had five different teachers when I was learning, and then I played in a band and learned the music inside out. Looking back, I never needed about half of what I was taught. Unless you're going to be a session player, you won't need it either.
So I teach the other half. It's a method of exercises and pieces of real songs that I've put together, and it's built to get you playing properly, then playing your own kind of music.
What a lesson with me is like
Most people arrive nervous. That's normal, and it doesn't last. I keep things relaxed, explain everything in plain English, and break it down as many times as it takes for it to make sense.
It's what I wanted from my teachers when I was learning, so it's what I try to give the people who come to me.
